Project Summary

The project provided significant improvements to the existing Paine Field Airport’s primary runway and surrounding utility infrastructure. The work was contracted to be complete in two months' time, requiring an aggressive schedule that minimized impacts to the airport’s operations. The contract included existing pavement section removal, excavation and embankment to provide new runway profile, placement of new pavement section (3,000-feet by 75 feet plus connecting taxiways), transitions to existing taxiways, associated storm drainage improvements, reconstruction of a section of perimeter road, replacement of existing runway edge lighting and signage system, installation of new PAPis, pavement marking, fencing modifications, and hydroseeding. Crews started work in May 2013 and wrapped up during the summer months, working around the clock to ensure the milestone completion times were met.
